Position Summary:

The Supervisor of Substitute Services serves as part of the Connections Learning Substitute Services team. The Supervisor of Substitute Services works collaboratively with the Senior Manager of Substitute Services, to provide Connections Education substitute teachers with exceptional onboarding, training, ongoing support, and advocacy services.  The Supervisor of Substitute Services will report to the Senior Manager of Substitute Services.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Interview and hire substitute teachers to maintain a high quality pool to meet the needs of Connections Education schools and programs;
  • Coordinates with the other Substitute Managers and Lead Substitute Teachers on staffing allocations and staffing strategy to ensure a strong pipeline of substitute services;
  • Work with the Senior Manager to continually improve the recruiting process to ensure legal and regulatory compliance while enhancing productivity, quality of hires, and time to fill;
  • Be an expert on school requirements in terms of certification, credentials and clearances;
  • Directly supervise a team of up to 30 substitute teachers and Lead Substitutes, along with indirectly managing their direct reports;
  • Develop a positive working relationship between the substitute services team and the schools and programs they are serving;
  • Handle all performance issues and concerns for their team of substitutes;
  • Ensure there is a focus on community and collaboration within the sub pool;
  • Support the Lead Substitute Teachers with ongoing training and leadership development;
  • Responsible for ensuring the effective and successful onboarding and training of new substitute teachers to ensure they are prepared to facilitate student learning during their assignments;
  • Assist and monitor substitute teachers during their placements to ensure compliance with training, handbooks, and the proper implementation of the Connections Education programs;
  • Plan and execute kick-off tasks with all key stakeholders (substitute, teacher of record and administrator) prior to the start of assignment;
  • Maintain, evolve, and deliver a robust training program for substitute teachers to include a mentoring program for new staff;
  • Review and submit timesheets to payroll for assigned staff;
  • Ensure staff are maintaining appropriate hours to comply with regulations;
  • Analyze pertinent reports to ensure substitute teacher compliance while on assignment;
  • Maintain a high level of communication with teachers meeting at least biweekly to ensure placement compliance and to provide support;
  • Oversee the successful selection, placement, and sectioning of each substitute;
  • Conduct performance management evaluations for their team of substitute teachers by providing high-quality written and verbal feedback on a regular basis including at the completion of each assignment;
  • Exemplify the company’s core values and;

  • Bachelor degree required; Master’s degree preferred;
  • At least 3 years of Teaching required;
  • At least 1 year Managing Teachers required;
  • Familiarity with the Connections Education Management System (EMS) and Program preferred;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Effective and consistent interpersonal skills;
