Position Summary:

Working from home, the Assistant Director of Teaching Services will supervise Teacher Managers for Connections Learning Institutional programs. The Assistant Director will have responsibility for the oversight and success of staff as well as the development of a system of ongoing management of teacher hiring, onboarding, professional development, and evaluation. This individual will report to the Director of Teaching Services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:



  • Hire, train, manage, and evaluate Connections Learning Teacher Managers;
  • Work with Human Resources to ensure all company policies and procedures are followed and to ensure teachers are certified as required;
  • Oversee the hiring of adjunct and full-time teachers;
  • Develop positive working relationships between Connections Learning teaching and program management staff and the clients’ staff at districts, schools and other organizations;
  • Develop and facilitate effective and efficient communication among teachers, teacher managers, program management staff, and clients’ staff at districts, schools and other organizations;
  • Track specific measures of student and program success;
  • Identify  and communicate interventions to teachers, managers and other stakeholders in the event of low student participation/performance;
  • Assist in  implementation of orientation program for new hires;
  • Assist in  implementation a mentoring program for new hires;
  • Coordinate and organize opportunities for teachers to engage in professional development;
  • Lead professional development activities, including planning for retreats as appropriate;
  • Serving as a liaison between School Support and the teachers;
  • Ensure that teachers and managers exhibit and maintain a high level of professionalism, instructional support and customer service;
  • Ensure the academic success of individual students by utilizing all levels of academic support available and by maintaining a high level of communication with teachers and their managers to deliver program information and address individual student needs;
  • Assist teaching staff with implementing any program changes and/or new software application introductions;
  • Oversee newsletter communications from School Support team; and
  • Additional duties as assigned.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience
  • Must have supervisory experience in a virtual setting
  • Proven administrative or management experience of instructional staff including managers
  • Current K-12 teaching certificate or equivalent qualification
  • Advanced degree is preferred
  • Certification in Educational Leadership preferred
  • Strong leadership qualities and a commitment to focused management and accountability toward student outcomes
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated comfort level with virtual educational programming
  • Technologically proficient (especially with use of the Internet and Microsoft Office products)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Customer focused approach
  • High degree of flexibility
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment
  • Team player
  • Some travel required
