Brand Autoweek
Title Editorial Manager
Employment Type Full Time Regular
Department Editorial
City Detroit

At Autoweek, we think we have the best jobs in the world, working for an automotive enthusiast magazine unique in the field, and with a rabid readership, much of which has hung with us since close to our founding nearly 60 years ago. And now we’re looking for one more lucky, car-crazy person to join our ranks.

Autoweek is seeking an Editorial Manager with a one-two skills punch: a love of all things automotive and strong organizational skills. A knack for working well in a team and an acute attention to detail are also musts as the position will require working with both the Executive Editor and the Commercial Operations Director to develop the runsheet for the magazine, determining the editorial page budgets for various sections and stories assigned to each issue. The Editorial Manager will also work with the Road Test Editor to continuously secure the cars for our test fleet, always keeping an eye on opportunities to use them for timely feature stories. The successful candidate also will be responsible for creating content for both the print magazine and the website, and as such will be required to travel both domestically and internationally on a regular basis for writing assignments.

  • Coordinate with the Editorial and Commercial teams to design the runsheet for every fortnightly issue of the magazine
  • Secure and maintain Autoweek’s short- and long-term car fleets
  • Write car reviews and feature stories for both the magazine and website based on test drives, engineering and design backgrounders, enthusiast events, etc.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field
  • Minimum three years of professional experience as an editor for a deadline-driven publication
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and proficiently
  • Able to work well within a team
  • A love of all things automotive!

  • Online experience, including content management systems, is preferred
  • Fluency with major social media platforms
  • Photography experience a plus
