Eliot's Emergency Services Program providing crisis support and clinical evaluation to individuals in the community is seeking a Peer Specialist. 

 

Responsibilities:

Empower consumers to exercise autonomy in all aspects of their life.

Assist consumers with identifying choices and developing skills in self advocacy.

Work collaboratively with ESP clinicians and staff in all aspects of the evaluation process. Accompany clinicians on evaluations, assist with consumer needs during the evaluation process, make any collateral contacts as delegated by the clinician and/or consumer, make any follow-up contacts on behalf of the consumer as dictated by the case.

Collaborate with other staff members to ensure that the consumer’s perspective is always included, that preferences are recognized and choices are maximized.

Provide training and consultation to staff to facilitate the understanding of consumer perspectives as needed.

Provide guidance to consumers in the recovery process.

Provide advocacy, support, and education during the evaluation and post-evaluation process.

Assist consumers to identify personal methods of recovery from mental illness/substance abuse and to develop self management plans to address their recovery process

Requirements

Requires a High School diploma and at least two years of paid or volunteer experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness. College experience or degree in human services is welcomed. Must have personal experience as a consumer of the mental health system and have self knowledge to manage the mental illness, as well as an established recovery process. Must complete the certified peer specialist training program through the statewide Recovery Learning Community and work toward certification. Computer literacy and skill in the use of computers and related software applications. Ability to consistently meet all necessary background and credentialing requirements. Must have valid drivers license and reliable transportation. Must have reliable telephone notification system for emergency contact.
