Job Description

The PCAOB has a full-time, regular position for a Solutions Architect in the Office of Information Technology (OIT). The position will be based out of the PCAOB's Ashburn, VA office but will require periodic travel to the organization's headquarters in Washington, DC.  This position is responsible for solution design, reviewing and evaluating projects underway for architectural standards adherence, and guidance. The Solution Architect will also collaborate with the virtual Enterprise Architecture team to provide input for developing, communicating, and managing OIT strategic plans, policies, architectures, and standards required to support the company's business vision, strategies, and operational plans in a Microsoft-centric environment.


  • Work with the project teams to conduct technical assessments of current state and provide input to the roadmap for future state
  • Develop and/or review solution design documentation for all proposed solutions
  • Participate in planning sessions with business and technology leaders to better understand and interpret requirements on both current projects and for planning
  • Collaborate with various technical teams to develop, expand, and refine comprehensive architecture models that drive enterprise solutions while minimizing point solutions
  • Create project and system architecture standards, methodologies, deliverables, and best practices
  • Provide practical knowledge of technical design and solution architecture alternatives and the implications of each approach
  • Evaluate vendors and products to facilitate build vs. buy discussions with project teams
  • Responsible for high-level design reviews
  • Provide technical input into key technology decisions
  • Review incoming project requests to determine the need to complete an analysis of the current state architecture, and evaluating and selecting new enterprise technologies.
  • Research and recommend strategic systems conversions and integrations to support business plans
  • Assess new computing technologies and relevant industry directions to determine potential value for the enterprise
  • Provide functional or technical expertise and consultation to IT management, users, and technical staff for solutions to business needs


  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related degree or equivalent combination of education and experience desired
  • 12+ years progressive experience in IT solution design and deployment, systems life cycle management, Infrastructure or communication systems planning and operations, and strategic planning
  • Experience with .NET and legacy Microsoft technology
  • Demonstrated ability to influence key stakeholders and technical personnel
  • Significant knowledge of business processes, competitive trends and developments In industry with ability to rapidly assess technology plans and product fit while ensuring an end-to-end enterprise focus
  • Ability to apply problem analysis/resolution techniques and engineering design capability
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the application of technical knowledge to solve Information system-related business problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience with multi-tier and cross platform architectures
  • Knowledge of project and/or system management processes
  • Proven experience with developing detailed solution architecture design plans
  • Proactive, quality-oriented, with demonstrated leadership and team-building skills
  • Knowledge and experience with TOGAF preferred. 
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently on projects and collaborate as a contributing team member; and
  • Extremely detail-oriented and the ability to manage multiple, critical tasks concurrently
  • Willingness to travel to the PCAOB’s Washington, DC office or other regional offices occasionally, as required
  • Available for off business hours work, as needed
