Job Description Summary

The PCAOB has an immediate need for a Staff Accountant at its Washington, DC headquarters office. The Staff Accountant will report to the Manager of Accounting and will be a member of the financial reporting team responsible for all aspects of the general ledger, financial reporting, and other accounting activities.  Responsibilities also include ensuring that deadlines are met and work is completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position requires a candidate who will contribute to a strong internal control environment and strive toward compliance with applicable rules and regulations.


  • Record and enter daily cash receipts, other receivables, and miscellaneous cash transactions
  • Reconcile various balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis  
  • Calculate and enter interest assessments for past due receivables
  • Facilitate the processing and mailing of refund checks
  • Import journal entries into Great Plains using SmartConnect
  • Obtain a thorough understanding of the general ledger structure and expedite the creation of new account segments
  • Prepare and maintain prepaid expense schedule on an ongoing basis
  • Review month-end binders for completeness
  • Prepare assigned schedules re: the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes
  • Provide administrative support for Financial Reporting team
  • Compile receivables aging report before each billing cycle
  • Generate and maintain vendor cards
  • Collaborate annually with the Office of General Counsel to prepare and submit Unclaimed Property filings
  • Reconcile monthly P-Card journal entry  
  • Assist with special projects, assignments, and other duties as required


  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting,  Finance, or related subject
  • One to three years of experience in a business environment
  • CPA, or  CPA candidate, preferred
  • Ability to review financial data and prepare accurate reports in a timely fashion
  • Ability to quickly identify issues and formulate approaches to problem resolution
  • Knowledge of Great Plains and TM1 software a plus
  • Proficient with Excel, Power Point, and other MS Office products
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to perform detailed-oriented and accurate work
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
