Job Description Summary

The PCAOB has a full-time regular position for a Communications Writer in its Division of Registration and Inspections (DRI) at its Washington DC headquarters. This key role requires a proactive person that thrives in a multi-faceted, fast-paced, and professional environment.  This position reports to the National Associate Director of Outreach and Communications.

Responsibilities

  • Develops engaging content for a variety of diverse external communications that delivers market-useful information effective in driving improvements in audit quality and meaningful to various stakeholder groups (e.g. investors, audit committee members, auditors and academics).
  • Design communications that educate stakeholders on the importance of understanding audit issues.
  • Writes clear, creative, concise and accurate communications in plain English.
  • Ability to identify trends and insights from large amounts of data to identify and further develop the message.
  • Assists in the preparation of speaking materials, including draft slides and speaker notes that are used in external presentations and status updates.
  • Review and edit inspection reports and briefs in order to provide recommendations on how to organize content to be most effective and to conform to best practices.
  • Collaborates with PCAOB staff, various teams and subject-matter experts within DRI and other divisions to develop and enhance content materials, analyze reporting findings and other information for use.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal DRI communications that deliver consistent, timely and transparent information on a variety of topics.
  • Assist in the development of new web based content and refreshing existing materials.
  • Provide support related to DRI press releases and web based content pages, as needed.
  • Assists in developing DRI’s outreach and communication strategy.
  • Perform other duties and special projects, as needed.
Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education/Technical Expertise
    • BS/BA degree or equivalent required (English, journalism, communications, marketing or a related major).
    • Minimum of 10 plus years of progressively responsible relevant experience in delivering oral and written executive level communications.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong ability to communicate ideas successfully; clarity in speech and writing.
    • A basic knowledge of auditing/accounting terminology is a plus.
    • A demonstrated track record of translating technical ideas into Plain English and creative writing.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, Internet, Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop and Outlook applications.
    • Demonstrates flexibility, agility, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
    • Exceptional time management, organization, and prioritization skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
    • Enjoys working in a fast paced environment.
    • Maintains standards of confidentiality with respect to all matters and documents.
    • Ability to travel, if required.
    • A self-starter able to administer a number of open, ongoing assignments at any one time, where some assignments are routinely unstructured, requiring autonomy and independent judgment.
    • In-depth experience successfully harmonizing diverse and competing interests.
