POSITION TITLE: Manager, Billing and Collections
LEVEL/FLSA: Manager, Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Billing and Collections
REPORTS TO: Director, Billing and Collections

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Manager of Billing and Collections is responsible to manage the daily operations of a large medical billing operation, with a focus on staff development and productivity.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential Functions of the Job:
 Responsible for the day to day operations of a medical billing unit which bills professional services; Annual collections are $350,000,000 with 85 employees.
 Responsible for the quality, productivity, performance improvement, customer service, and patient interface of the unit.
 Develops and monitors key performance indicators for productivity and quality of individual team members; coach supervisors to take necessary action to facilitate achievement of performance targets
 Creates and maintains project plans for new initiatives
 Assists Director with the implementation of new initiatives to ensure smooth, timely, and effective processing of accounts
 Ensures adequate staffing and workforce planning in partnership with HR
 Reviews Supervisor management reports and presents to Director on progress or issues
 Ensures business continuity when implementing new systems and updates processes accordingly
 Ensures policies and procedures are followed
 Establishes performance standards and policies and procedures that comply with government regulations and organizational policies
 Responds to Director on internal audit findings
 Responds to patient and clinic questions or concerns as required
 Develops and maintains relationships with payers and vendors to ensure streamlined collections
 Maintains relationship with clinic business managers through monthly relationship meetings and other venues as necessary
 Maintains up-to-date knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations related to patient and insurance billing
 Plans end of month workload with Supervisor of Payment Research
 Ensures dissemination of corporate goals and objectives to staff
 Maintains IT priority list for Director
 Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Education:
 BS degree in a related field or equivalent combination of experience and education
Experience:
• At least five years related experience, including some experience in a medical billing capacity
• Epic Professional Billing system experience preferred
• Two or more years of supervisory experience
• Experience supervising 50 plus employees (Direct or Indirect) preferred
• Knowledge of federal refund policies, procedures, and regulations a plus
• Working knowledge of CPT coding and third party reimbursement policies preferred
 Knowledge of the principles and practices of employee development sufficient to manage departments
• Experience with creating and monitoring budgets preferred
Skills:
 Knowledge of computer systems, programs, and applications
 Ability to capture and analyze data
 Familiarity with accounting and database software highly desirable
 Knowledge of healthcare-related systems including Physician and Hospital billing systems a plus

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has 4 exempt direct reports and 80-90 staff level employees to manage.
