Description POSITION TITLE: Senior Staff Accountant
LEVEL/FLSA: 12, Exempt
DEPARTMENT: Finance & Administration
REPORTS TO: Manager, Financial Operations, General Accounting & Accounts Payable

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Senior Staff Accountant assists in the maintenance of the general ledger, provides the accounting for UPG Subsidiaries including the Clinical Practice Group, provides analytical support for the Corporate Financial Analysts and assumes a lead role for the Staff Accountant I and II positions. The Senior Staff Accountant may also provide technical assistance to users of the accounting system and works closely with management on ways to improve overall operational efficiency.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the job:
 Assumes a lead role for the Staff Accountant I and II positions.
 Provides high-level analytical support, including generation of reports and charts, to management.
 Maintains thorough working knowledge of all general ledger functions.
 Provides accounting software assistance to co-workers as it pertains both to use of the general ledger and financial reporting modules.
 Assists in preparation and documentation of applicable policies and procedures for financial operations as appropriate.
 Ensures adherence to Foundation policies and procedures in reviewing Journal Entries, invoices and other requests for payment for account coding and proper authorization of expenditure before payments are processed by Accounts Payable.
 Recommends changes to policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the accounting unit and the accuracy and timely completion of accounting related duties.
 Assists in developing, analyzing, revising and maintaining system for allocating UPG administrative overhead costs to various business units and clinical departments.
 Assists in developing, analyzing, revising and maintaining financial reporting modules.
 Assumes primary responsibility for various complex account reconciliations.
 Produces financial information necessary for invoicing, reporting and reconciliation of special agreements including MOU, contracts and leases pertaining to Clinical Practice Group, Clinical Departments and the Buchanan Award.
 Assists Finance Team in preparing and monitoring financial and audit activities and ensures proper communication of transactions involved.
 Assists in analyzing data in the general ledger for accuracy and completeness.
 Produces the monthly financials for the Clinical Practice Group including, RPC, HOPE and CPG units.
 Communicates with administrative directors, managers and supervisors regarding financial statement issues and investigates and resolves any discrepancies.
 Serves as back-up support to the other positions as requested by management.
 Prepares other financial analyses as requested by management.
 Maintains appropriate skills in accounting and software applications by attending training sessions and using/exploring the tools available.
 Performs other tasks as assigned.
Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Education:
 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or related field.
 Masters Degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA, or significant work experience a plus.
Experience:
 At least 2 years demonstrated automated general ledger accounting experience.
 Experience in analyzing financial information and designing reports, which appropriately communicate that information in a manner meaningful to users.
Knowledge and skills:
 Proficiency in application of word processing, accounting and spreadsheet computer software.
 Advanced proficiency in Excel spreadsheet software.
 Strong financial background
