Description POSITION TITLE Epic Compliance & Billing Analyst
LEVEL/FLSA: 12/Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY: The incumbent is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and working Epic charge router and charge review work queues and reporting system issues to the PB team. The incumbent will assist with training materials for end users, run designated reports to be shared with leadership, and assist with new provider set up in Epic. The incumbent will utilize a combination of communication and analytical skills to define system issues and recommend solutions in Epic. This position has the opportunity for growth and promotion into a Senior Epic Compliance & Billing Analyst position.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the job:
• Provide support to the Senior Epic Compliance & Billing Analyst and Billing Quality Lead Educator relative to tasks associated with Epic setup, functionality, and billing compliance.
 Monitors, analyzes, and works charge edits/issues in designated charge router and charge review work queues.
 Identifies issues and reports problems and proposes possible solutions to Senior Epic Compliance & Billing Analyst and Epic PB team.
 Monitors and reports on work queue productivity and open encounters.
 Assists with new provider set up in Epic.
 Identifies, analyzes and recommends resolution of front-end system issues within the various clinical departments.
 Monitors and analyzes management information reports to identify variances in physician billing productivity and reimbursement performance. Recommends corrective action to address deficiencies.
 Assists with the implementation of new policies and procedures to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the capture, coding, submission and reimbursement of all physician charges to the University of Virginia Physicians Group.
 Assigns appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis codes. Determines which CPT-4 codes can be charged, according to generally accepted coding guidelines.
 Monitor and review diagnosis and procedure code changes to ensure Epic updates and setups are accurate.
 Willingness to learn new skills to respond quickly to changing customer needs.
 Maintains a working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements.
 Assists and supports Senior Epic Compliance and Billing Analyst with system and procedure implementation as required.
 Completes other assignments as required.
Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Education:
 High School Diploma or GED, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
 College courses in business-related field.
 Medical coding certification: CPC or CCS required.
Experience:
 Five years of experience in a medical coding/billing position.
 In depth knowledge of CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding.
 Basic understanding of EPIC, revenue cycle and billing a must.
 Ability to prepare materials on various training topics.
 In-depth knowledge of third-party payer reimbursement policies.
 Must know modifiers and use based on policies.
 Experience in a multi-specialty, academic, tertiary care physician practice a plus.
 Experience providing training and guidance in coding a plus.

Knowledge and skills:
 Intermediate knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer.
 Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills required.
 Familiarity with Epic EHR system preferred.
 Must demonstrate the advanced ability to both prepare and analyze data as determined by management
