DEPARTMENT: Clinical Practice Group (CPG)
REPORTS TO: Regional Manager or Chief CPG

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Charge Nurse oversees nursing care of patients Clinical Practice Group practices. The incumbent supervises and oversees the clinical quality, assists in the training of staff, and evaluates clinical staff in conjunction with the Office Managers. In addition, the Charge Nurse works closely with the CPG Management Team to enhance overall patient flow and staff efficiency and competency. Serves as a positive role model fostering a team approach. Position responsibilities include a combination of office and clinical settings.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Essential functions of the job:
 Works in conjunction with the medical staff and nursing to facilitate patient management through the healthcare system. Assists in establishing an efficient and effective patient flow. Communicates and collaborates effectively with patient, family and members of the health care team
 Documents in Electronic Medical Record in a comprehensive and timely manner.
 Functions as an EPIC SuperUser and subject matter expert. Provides direct support through education and training to clinical staff.
 Supports travel or practice based providers in the role of Patient Care Specialist II or Team Care Assistant as required.
 Coordinates staff education, competency assessment, orientation, training, and cross-training of clinical staff.
 Participates in interviewing, hiring and orientation of new employees.
 Establishes and participates in CPG Quality Improvement Program and policies and procedures.
 Assists Clinical Practice Group Management in working with Office Managers and vendors to obtain most cost effective drugs and medical supplies. Manages centralized vaccine ordering and inventory tracking.
 Participates in establishing clinical operational goals for the CPG network, both long and short term
 Participates in preparation of the annual operations budget
 Research of new clinical services to determine impact to operations as related to cost, implementation, training.
 Provides oversight to CPG practices for laboratory testing (policies and procedures, quality measures)
 Provides vaccinations and screenings to staff and providers per UVA WorkMed protocol
 Responsible for oversight of OSHA and Universal Precautions compliance and outside clinical issues (CDC, new services, health departments, patient education).
 Performs other tasks as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Significant indirect responsibility for all nursing clinical staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Clinical and administrative duties in a busy medical office environment. Ability to travel to all of the CPG practices and UPG as needed.

Requirements REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
Education:
 Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
 Bachelor Degree in Nursing preferred.
 BLS Trainer certification preferred or obtains within six months of employment.
Experience:
 Two years previous clinical office experience.
 Must have experience operating electrocardiogram and other medical equipment and in the performance of Point of Care testing.
 Supervisory experience helpful.
Knowledge and skills:
 Advanced knowledge of and experience utilizing a personal computer.
 Electronic Medical Record knowledge and experience preferred
 Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and Universal Precautions protocols.
