Our current portfolio includes over 21,000 residential units in 70+ multifamily properties and 3.1 million square feet of commercial space in 14 states. Our development activities include over 10,000 units and approximately 2 million square feet of commercial space under development or in the planning stages of development.



JOB DESCRIPTION GID and its ownership are comprised of a wide variety of taxpayers including partnerships, limited liability companies, complex joint ventures, real estate investment trusts, S corporations, individuals and trusts. The Tax Department is responsible for all aspects of the income tax compliance including the preparation and filing of all applicable federal, state, and local income tax returns. As a Senior Tax Associate, you will be involved in all components of tax compliance, planning and research, be exposed to an array of federal and state tax issues across different taxpayer types, and contribute to the success of the Tax Team.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:



  1. Prepare quarterly and annual REIT testing, as well as income and distribution projections for REITs.
  2. Review federal and state tax returns for REITs, taxable REIT subsidiaries, and partnerships prepared by external tax advisers..
  3. Prepare and/or review returns for complex multi-state partnerships and high net worth individuals, including estimates and extensions.
  4. Be actively engaged with current company transactions. Work with members of the in-house Accounting group as well as external tax preparers to ensure that transactions are properly reported.
  5. Assist Tax Managers with information requests from other departments and participate in special projects.
  6. Provide guidance and training to Associates with preparation software and tax issues.
  7. Respond to federal and state notices and conduct necessary research..

Requirements

 

SKILLS

  1. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.
  2. Solid written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of staff and management, both within the organization and external advisers.
  3. Self-starter with the aptitude for identifying issues, analyzing facts and developing solutions.
  4. Energized professional who assumes responsibility and seeks autonomy.
  5. Passionate learner with the curiosity to look through the financials into the business to gain understanding of the company.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum 5 years professional tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax department with a concentration in real estate. Development accounting experience is desirable.
  2. Master of Science in Taxation or candidate for MST is desirable. CPA is a plus.
  3. Bachelor of Science in Accounting with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
