Position Summary:

Working from our office in Baltimore (Inner Harbor East) or a home office, the Assessment Design Specialist is responsible for analyzing and leading the development of curriculum assessments in various disciplines for grades K through 12. Working with the Manager of Assessment Design, the Assessment Design Specialist will analyze curriculum assessments, revise existing assessments, align assessments to local and/or national curriculum standards, and inform the development of formative and summative assessments. Effective communication with assessment design management, other assessment design specialists, curriculum specialists and managers, editors, and the research, assessment, and accountability team is essential. The Assessment Design Specialist will also define and oversee project work done by assessment writers and reviewers, and may communicate with teachers to provide assessment design expertise.   • Analyze curriculum and student data to evaluate program effectiveness and to provide information needed for strategic planning;
  • Develop curriculum assessment solutions for the purpose of providing users with tools and strategies needed to enhance student learning;
  • Lead the development of curriculum assessments to ensure best practices, alignment, rigor, and preparation for national assessments;
  • Work with subject-matter experts to create course design specifications containing formative and summative course assessments, learning objectives, lesson topics, and learning activities;
  • Participate in developing and monitoring course assessment guidelines and standards;
  • Stay current on research-based assessment practices and national assessment protocols;
  • Work with team of curriculum specialists to develop a comprehensive and consistent academic program;
  • Provide support to program teachers;
  • Provide assessment expertise as needed for various company efforts; and
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Master’s degree in education, educational measurement, psychometrics, educational psychology, or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience with K-12 education assessment; five (5) years preferred
  • Demonstrated successful experience in assessment design 
  • Has knowledge of next-generation assessment features, technology-enhanced items, online assessment, and national assessment protocols
  • Has knowledge of best practices for assessment authoring, alignment, and cognitive rigor
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with cross-departmental teams
  • Must enjoy a challenging work environment that requires flexibility, self-direction, creativity, and strong communication skills
  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft Office programs)
  • Excellent organizational and follow through skills
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
